Hi

My name is Anne 50 years old, I'm a newby to forums never used facebook or MSM so bear with me a bit nervous. Recently been diagnosed with RA, I have just taken my third dose of MTX 20mg weekly, no bad side effects yet. Felt very sad for myself for a few days once I found out but now coming to terms with it. I just want to be able to speak to people with this painful disease because to be honest unless you have experienced the continous feeling of broken hands and painful joints I don't think people can understand and I don't want to bore my husband and two teenage sons with it. Two nights ago my jaw was so painful the following morning nothing. I have also started to wear Wrist splints at night and these appear to be working.

I look forward to swapping stories and experiences with you all.

Hi Anne,

I'm Lorna, and I am 50 also. Sorry you have RA I was Diagnosed almost 3 years ago. I was very ill when first told I had it. I was also new to forums in March when I decided to join. Everyone is friendly and helpful and some very amusing. I am married with 3 grown up daughters the youngest being 16 years old. I was on the triple therapy when I started the drugs. I hated taking so many tablets, but I turned it around, but for these tablets I would be as bad as I was in the beginning. I still hate taking the MTX but I have to be glad it helps me so much. Be positive and look forward, I am so much better now and thank god each day for keeping me well. Look forward to your postings. Lorna x

you are right if you dont have RA you dont know what people are going on about
it takes from 12 to 15 weeks for the MTX to kick in so you need to be pacient

sadly I also developed MS 3 years ago (I am a very greedy person)

Hi Anne

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with RA but pleased you have found NRAS so quickly. You will find lots of support and very friendly folk on here! (Plenty of mad ones too but the less said about that the better because they'll only retaliate Scared !!! )

I'm Lyn, had RA for 22 years and run the gamut of medication and various surgical procedures along the way. Currently on Enbrel (anti-tnf), Mtx, Prednisolone, Naproxen and a bucket load of other bits! I'm married to Mike, we have four kids at various stages of education, and live in Lancashire.

Pleased to hear that you are tolerating the Methotrexate; some are very fortunate and don't experience any side effects. It really is the gold standard treatment for RA so fingers crossed it works well for you. I consider myself lucky that whilst I was very seriously ill for four years at the outset very little information was available so it was a case of taking the pills and getting on with life. Sometimes so much information can be quite depressing!

Look forward to getting to know you better,

Lyn x

Hello Anne

Welcome to the forum. You will have great support on here.

I joined NRAS plus Forum last month and it has helped me immensly. I am Rose from Somerset, aged 56 with
2 grown up children. Had RA for 18 months. Once diagnosed was put on mtx almost straight away , however
unfort for me though after 3 attempts i had to stop it as it upset my liver. I had a big flare so am in my 9 week
of work and they still have not sorted my medication out. I was given a depo inject last Thursday so have now
eased up a little. Fatigue is the worst together with the pain things can be bad and you feel low but this 'site.
will help you.

Take care
Kassy

Hello Annie

I am a fellow newbie and really enjoyed the interest and kind support of this community to my post yesterday. Methotrexate certainly wonders for me for a long time. I hope it helps you too. All the best.

Hi Anne

Welcome to the forum ThumpUp

I'm Helly, 35yrs old and was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis when I was 2. I went onto methotrexate when I was 12 which along with steroids helped put my arthritis into remission... It stayed in remission until last September and now I'm on etodolac and hydroxychloroquine to try and kick it back into touch.

Looking forward to getting to know you xx

Hi Anne, and welcome from me too! I am Barbara, diagnosed July 2009 (but symptoms for a long time before this) married to Roy with two grown sons and two daughters youngest is just 17. I am 56, also on mtx hydroxychloroqine and sulfasalazine, and just today added pregabelin for my fibromyalgia (nurse said we need a two prong attack apparently!!) Glad the mtx is not giving you problems, and hope it works for you, and you find your way around the forum. Everyone is great for advice and support, take care xSmile

Hi Anne,

I was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago and am waiting to see if I can go on the anti-tnf treatments. I'm 46 and have been with my partner for 26 years and we have an 8 year old son Jimmy. I don't talk to my partner and friends much about the RA and think I would have gone bonkers some time ago if I hadn't have found the lovely people on this forum. Hope you find it as useful as I do.

Hello Anne, and welcome to the forum, though I`m sorry that you have RA.

I bless the day I found this forum, as I didn`t know anyone at all who had RA, so I felt very isolated. There is a wealth of knowledge and support on here - and humour, which helps a lot!

I`m Kathleen, aged 59, and I was diagnosed over 4 years ago. I`m currently taking humira, plus various painkillers and other bits & bobs.

Keep posting,

Kathleen x

Hi Anne

A big welcome from me too. I'm 53- was diagnsed in 2008. So far things haven't been too bad, although I do have my ups and downs. I'm on sulfasalazine which was great for about 2 yrs but a couple of months ago it wasn't working so well so doc has put me on methotrexate as well- just about to start it on Monday.

THe forum is wonderful- so much support and advice- and good laughs.

Take care

Maria
